wedding invitation cyberscams: The Rajasthan Police’s cybercrime division issued a warning against scammers who use wedding invitations to get mobile devices and take money out of victims’ accounts.

The invites are given in the form of APKs, which, when downloaded, infect mobile phones and grant fraudsters complete access to the devices, Hemant Priyadarshi, Director General of Cyber Crime at Rajasthan Police, told India Today TV.

“The malicious APK files get installed on the phone automatically and the fraudsters then have access to the personal data and messages,” according to him.

The investigator clarified that fraudsters also use the gadget to acquire bank OTPs in order to transfer funds to their accounts.

He suggested that users set up two-step verification on WhatsApp.

“Additionally, if the APK file is accidentally installed on your phone, unplug it from the internet right away. As a precaution, freeze your bank account as well,” Priyadarshi said.

He pointed out that during the past several days, numerous instances of WhatsApp invite fraud had been recorded in Rajasthan.
